When
the long-running musical Cats closed, before its next Broadway show
the Schubert Organization took the opportunity to restore the interior
of the Winter Garden, built in 1911 in the Federal Revival style. It
had been damaged significantly over the years, leaving gaping holes
in the ceiling and walls.
The client and architect Francesca Russo set aside time in the pre-construction schedule for EverGreene artisans to prepare full-scale mockups on site of each element of ornamental plasterwork and decorative painting. This enabled aesthetic and practical decisions to be made in advance, so that the job proceeded quickly later. EverGreenes sculptural talents and plaster shop were called upon in the fabrication of plaster domes and numerous other classical features in the reconstruction. EverGreene artisans worked collaboratively on the jobsite with the Schuberts in-house crew, which handled tasks like framing and metalwork Services included: Ornamental and flat plaster restoration Extensive replication of missing plasterwork Fabrication of new ornamental plasterwork designed for the lobby Decorative painting in all public spaces, including glazing, gilding and faux marble Photo: © Gustavo Rojas |
